Ok, so after spending a fantastic 5 days in Hoi An, we headed to Nha Trang on another night bus. We arrived at 6am and all we wanted to do was sleep. Good job as well, as when we finally headed out into the city to have a look around, we were completely not enamoured with the place.
It has a lovely beach, but that is it. It is very western, with lots of high rise buildings and posh hotels on the seafront.
We were still travelling with Byron our Canadian friend, but just like us, after the joys of Hoi An, Byron was a bit disappointed by Nha Trang too.
Our first day we just wandered the streets. We didnt really do much as we were very tired. But we also discovered that there is a very good waterpark in the area, so we were building up our energy for that for the next day.
So Saturday, we headed out earlyish. It was a good 10km to the cable car that takes you out to the island that holds the water park. The company, Vin Pearl, is so big they have their own island!!!!
Views from the cable car of Nha Trang and the surrounding islands.
The park cost 300,000Dong which is £10, but everything was included. All the arcade games, rollercoaster rides, water park, aquarium etc etc. Unbelievable! But as it was the low season, the place was empty! Literally, a handful of people.
We did all the dry activities first, and then headed to the water park.
Now, we wont bore you with all the “there was this ride and that ride and this and that.” All we will say is that there were a lot of very good rides (see the pictures below). All the rides were on at certain times of the day, which meant you couldnt do the ones you wanted at the times you wanted to. But we managed to make good friends with one of the park attendants who kept opening rides for us whenever we wanted and asked nicely. It was awesome!
For the two nights that we were in Nha Trang, we ate at a restaurant that was just around the corner from our hotel. But when we say just around the corner, we mean in the proper dodgy end of town. But it was well worth the worrying walk there. The place, Lac Canh, was based on you cooking your own food on barbecue clay pots. There was fresh seafood and incredible marinated meats. We loved it so much thats why we went twice. The thing that got Naomi the most was the size of the shrimps, and the fact she had to cook them, and didnt want to give herself food poisoning! Naomi has cooked prawns before, but nothing on the scale of how big these ones were.
Byron’s tuna and Chris’s beef on the grill and Naomi’s badass shrimps
A small selection of our food!
Byron having issues with a prawn, and then the bottle opener!!!
We left Nha Trang on the Sunday afternoon. We had a great time, but after the lovely Hoi An, our eyes were clouded! So Nha Trang could have been the most amazing city in the world, but where we were so in love with Hoi An, nothing could beat it or even come close.
Naomi and Chris
xx
